Effects of improper voltage on motors

Unbalanced voltage causes inefficient Utilization of motor, wasting power and resulting in motor derating. For example, a voltage unbalance of 5% between phases will cause a 25% derating in motor capacity. So, for same load, a much higher capacity motor is needed. Unbalanced voltage causes overheating of motor resulting in reduced equipment life.
